Join Our Professional Legal Network

ALRAR encourages volunteer legal professionals from across Australia – including lawyers, barristers, academics and law students – to join our Professional Legal Network.

By joining ALRAR’s  Professional Legal Network, you will have the opportunity to become involved in high quality legal work and to assist remote Aboriginal people and communities to address the public interest and human rights issues of concern to them.

When we need the services of a legal professional, we contact members of our Professional Legal Network to check availability and ensure there is no legal conflict in relation to the matter for which assistance is sought. If the volunteer legal professional is able to assist, we forward him or her any document relevant to the matter. All written advices and other legal documentation are reviewed and settled by ALRAR’s Head of Legal Advocacy. The advice is covered by ALRAR’s professional indemnity insurance.

We understand the immense time pressures placed on legal professionals, and have both limited-scope and more complex work with which we require assistance. Work can be completed online, although we also have opportunities for members of our Professional Legal Network to assist with work in remote communities.

The benefits of joining our Professional Legal Network include:

  • gaining legal experience in human rights law;
  • honing your existing legal skills;
  • learning a new area of law, expanding your legal practice or diversifying your work; and
  • making a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of Aboriginal Australians residing in remote communities.

We rely solely on the generosity of people like you

Donate

In order to retain its independence, ALRAR does not accept any funding from government agencies or political parties.

ALRAR relies on the assistance of legal professionals who volunteer their time and legal skills at no charge. All donations received are used to fund unavoidable costs, such as court application fees, practising certificate fees and professional indemnity insurance.

Please help us to make a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of remote Aboriginal people and communities by donating today.
